The David

As we grow and change, evolve, metamorphose, revert, explore pieces of ourselves break and reform, shifting and smoothing like pieces of glass shaped by sand and water - crossing oceans and arriving on distant shores appearing entirely new and yet it is the core of who we are that becomes more and more into focus as the excess melts away.

Shine a light through the glass and the watch an unseen network of fissures illuminate - cracks that someone else might see as flaws, imperfections but are simply the nature of this piece. The story of it's travels, the journey it has taken to arrive before your eyes.

What am I but a piece of sea glass? Perhaps Michelangelo would have seen me as a child and as with his blocks of marble simply known what was inside, the core of the stone that would eventually be revealed. Not even I know this - but I know that with every wave and the brushing of each grain of sand I take more and more of my own true shape, slowly shrugging off and letting go of every extra weight, every extra piece I no longer need, perhaps never needed.
