Work

If work = force parallel * lever arm then there are three ways (at least) to maximize it.

1) Increase lever arm.
Sometimes, perhaps, a little distance is necessary. Get too close to something and you may fail to see it for what it truly is. Take a step back, get a good look at your objective and then figure out what can really be done to optimize your efficiency. Most of us can't grow longer arms, but we can work our muscles, increase our ability to sympathize and feel compassion, supplement our knowledge and even rewire neural pathways and create new avenues. Perhaps a new avenue is a more direct approach - a more efficient approach. Take the empty space out of something and you'll find there is much more room to play and work then you may have conceived.

2) Apply more force.
Most of us struggling with our work output aren't frustrated because we don't put the time in. But perhaps we apply the wrong kind of forces. Fretting is an unproductive waste of energy and waste of work. It exploits and consumes your resources and can only leave you feeling unaccomplished. Drama, worry, pressure- these are all real tangible forces, we can feel them. But they are counterproductive. Like friction, they divert useable energy in the form of heat, anger, and jealously leading to depression, angst, and other unsettling emotions which in turn cause us to be even more counterproductive. If you choose to apply more force - be certain you apply the appropriate forces and the productive ones - make sure they are at the right angle.

3) Adjust your angle.
If you're applying your maximum force but receiving a minimal output or subpar energy output (relative terms only subject to your own observation, of course) perhaps you're pushing at the wrong angle or even in the wrong direction. Unfocused energy does not maximize work, only frustration. Put in the time, put forth your energy, but make sure your pushing in the direction of your goals and not against them in order to maximize your effective output. Find the path of least resistance, if possible, or if not possible then find the ways to use the path youre on to the best of its ability.

What really limits our ability to do work? Time, money, love, capacity? Perhaps it is nothing more than the desire to see the efficient way to accomplish it... whatever you're striving for is possible.

Love,
M
